Christmas Baubles

I found this idea of making balls from paper strips on Claire Seccomb's blog Changing Phase. It involves decorating strips of paper and then putting them together with a butterfly pin to make a ball shape. I adapted the idea so we could use it with the Christmas song; The Twelve Days of Christmas

You can find the song here

and the lyrics to the song here

The Twelve Days of Christmas in a traditional song describing the gifts someone receives from their true love over the 12 days of Christmas. My group of older children (9 to 11 years) are doing a project at the moment on Festivals Around The World. Our focus for the last few sessions has been Christmas in the UK.

The Twelve Days of Christmas is another way for them to learn a little more about how we celebrate Christmas in the UK and also to revise numbers and ordinals to 12. They have been pratising ordinals for a while now but they are still finding it a bit tricky especially with all those 'th' sounds!

I have adapted Claire's instructions because I wanted to make 12 strips, one for each of the 12 Days of Christmas.

You can find my template and instructions here: Christmas bauble The 12 Days of Christmas template

Here is an example of one that we are working on to give you an idea of what it should look like:

The strips need to be cut out, punched with holes at both ends and then attached using butterfly pins.

Take a look at these wonderful free visual flashcards from Twink here and more with the pictures and words here to help your children learn the song.
